Austal awarded US Defense contract

Company News

Austal Limited (ASX:ASB) has been awarded its second contract from the United States Department of Defense this month.

The ship builder says its US subsidiary has scored a modification to the Littoral Combat Ship contract in excess of $US14 million.

Under the deal Austal will provide engineering, design services and affordability efforts to cut the Littoral Combat Ship acquisition and lifecycle costs.

The modification exercises options for class service efforts for the Littoral Combat Ship program and Austal expects to complete the work by the end of 2014.

The news comes just weeks after the US Department of Defense awarded Austral a modification to the Littoral Combat Ship contract in excess of $US8 million.

Austal more than tripped its net profit to $35.7 million in the 2013 financial year.
