News Corp spends $US25M on Storyful

Company News

News Corp (ASX:NWS) has bought Storyful, a start-up that helps newsrooms find and vet impromptu video content from across the web, for $US25 million.

The acquisition helps News Corp capitalise on the surge in crowd-sourced reporting, an area many newsrooms are trying to mine for content.

The 28-employee start-up also specialises in verifying citizen reports coming in through social media.

Storyful, which is based in Dublin, will operate as a stand-alone company within News Corp, according to a company statement.

The company secures permission for videos it considers newsworthy and sells licences for their use to organisations such as The New York Times, Reuters and CNN.
