Qantas, Emirates hold talks

Company News

Qantas Airways Limited (ASX:QAN) and Emirates Airline have met this week, with media reports suggesting Jetstar Asia may become more involved in the pair’s alliance.

Jetstar Asia, has a current interline agreement with Emirates but not a codeshare deal that would allow frequent flyers to receive points on Jetstar flights.

Qantas would not elaborate on this week’s discussions but did hint at changes to the alliance, the report says.

Emirates last year indicated it wanted Jetstar Asia to be involved in the alliance, saying it saw a lot of potential in such a deal.

Jetstar’s Australian operations would not be involved under the arrangement, the reports say.

Qantas generated a net profit of $6 million in fiscal 2013.
