Graincorp seeks less regulation

Company News

The competition watchdog is seeking views on whether the scope of regulation of Graincorp’s Limited (ASX:GNC) bulk grain port terminal in Newcastle should be reduced.

The ACCC says GrainCorp wants its Newcastle terminal to be subject to less access regulation because it now faces competition from two other bulk wheat export terminals.

The regulator will examine the level of competition GrainCorp's port faces, and whether it is appropriate to remove existing undertaking obligations.

The grains handler says the other facilities are not subject to access regulation and argues this puts it at a competitive disadvantage.

Graincorp generated a net profit of $141 million in its 2013 financial year.
