Midday: Aus shares higher at noon

Market Reports

The Australian share market is gaining traction at noon amid investor confidence over US Federal Reserve vice chair Janet Yellen’s support for the central bank’s stance on monetary policy.

With no local economic news to drive the market, traders seem buoyed by Ms Yellen’s comments to a hearing before the US Senate Banking Committee that there are dangers to ending the central bank's $US85 billion-a-month bond-buying program too soon.

Figures

The S&P/ASX 200 index is 20 points higher at noon at 5,375. On the futures market the SPI is 19 points up.
