Downer EDI wins $400M contract

Downer EDI Limited (ASX:DOW) has secured a contract with Bechtel for two electrical and instrumentation packages for the downstream portion of the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project in Western Australia. 
 
Downer says the contract is valued at $400 million and will commence on site in late 2014.
 
The engineering company says the contract would create up to 600 jobs in Australia across a variety of construction trades, mainly electrical and instrumentation.
 
There will also be a number of new project administration and functional support roles located in Downer’s Perth office.
 
Downer EDI delivered a net profit of $204 million in fiscal 2013.
