Company News

David Jones Limited (ASX:DJS) first quarter sales rose on growth in the fashion and beauty categories, but has warned conditions are still challenging.

The high end department store chain says first quarter sales lifted just over 2 per cent to $424.2 million.

Like for like sales fell by 0.3 per cent to $414.2 million, compared with the previous corresponding period.

But the retailer says with disruption from the Canberra Centre store refurbishment excluded, like for like sales actually rose 0.6 per cent.

The company says progress is being made in implementing its strategic plan, but it continues to expect trading will be challenging throughout fiscal 2014.

David Jones generated a net profit of $95.2 million in fiscal 2013.
