BHP Billiton Limited
(ASX:BHP) chief executive officer Andrew Mackenzie is seeking a strategic partner in its $US15 billion Jansen Canadian potash project, according to media reports.
Mr Mackenzie says the group is looking for a partner who will add value, and has reportedly already held discussions with parties about selling a stake in the asset.
He says the miner has reaped enormous benefits from having minority partners in its operations and that BHP is looking for a partner that can improve the project economics.
BHP announced a $2.6 billion investment in the potash project over three years, as part of its full-year results last week.
BHP generated a net profit of $11.9 billion in fiscal 2013.
