Arrium cheered by $A fall

Company News

Arrium Limited (ASX:ARI) says a one cent fall in the dollar's value is worth $10 million to $12 million in before-tax profit for its business.

That's good news for the steelAmaker, which posted a heavy loss for the first half of the financial year.

The Australian dollar has fallen by about 14 cents since April.

The new boss Andrew Roberts says steelmaking is an important part of its future despite it being a driver of its performance in recent years.

Another full year loss is expected to be announced next month after it revealed its latest impairment last week - $480 million in charges from cost slashing and other restructuring efforts in steelmaking.

Arrium booked a net loss of $445.4 million in the first half of the 2013 financial year.
