Western Areas sets nickel sales record

Company News

Western Areas Limited (ASX:WSA) says it’s set a record in unaudited nickel sales and exceeded its updated full year guidance.

Sales for the month of June beat expectations resulting in a record year of over 27,000 tonnes of nickel.

Managing Director Dan Lougher says production exceeded expectations by over 1,000 tonnes.

Mr Lougher says higher sales and cost management has delivered an unaudited cash position of $80 million – greater than the $70 million predicted.

He says free cashflow generation will be about $22 million, amid a difficult commodity price environment.

Western Areas generated a net profit of $2.1 million in the first half of fiscal 2013.
