Fortescue Metals Group Limited’s (ASX:FMG) founder Andrew Forrest is walking the talk and heading to China to pave some positive relations.
The iron ore producer’s non-executive Chairman will reportedly lead a group of senior business leaders at a major forum attended by Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Bill Gates and George Soros.
The Boao Forum for Asia is one of the region’s largest annual economic meetings and this year’s theme is titled "Asia Seeking Development for All: Restructuring, Responsibility and Cooperation".
According to Fairfax Media Mr Forrest has backed Prime Minister Julia Gillard for her trip to China but claims Australia’s good relationship started splintering following Kevin Rudd’s public criticism of China’s human rights record.
Other high powered Australian executives forming the 150-strong business delegation include Westpac Banking Corporation’s
(ASX:WBC) CEO Gail Kelly and National Australia Bank Limited’s
(ASX:NAB) Chairman Michael Chaney.
Fortescue Metals Group generated a net profit of $460.3 million in the first half of the 2013 financial year.
