Aquarius Platinum reopens mine after death

Company News

Aquarius Platinum Limited (ASX:AQP) says operations have resumed at the Kwezi shaft at the Kroondal platinum mine in South Africa.

The announcement comes after mining operations were temporarily suspended following the death of a contract worker in a fall of ground incident last week.

Aquarius Platinum advises the suspension of mining operations resulted in a loss of about 1,500 ounces of production attributable to the company.

The Kwezi shaft has been shadowed with controversy with last week’s fatal accident following on from an incident in August 2012 which resulted in three deaths and 20 injuries.

Aquarius Platinum booked a net loss of $177.5 million in the first half of the 2013 financial year.
