Seven West Media Ltd
(ASX:SWM) has reportedly offered Tennis Australia an extension to its $21 million annual contract, in an attempt to get a jump on the competition.
Seven’s grip on the broadcast rights expires in 2014.
Several Tennis Australia directors are understood to have rejected the offer, believing an open tender process will spark a bidding war between the broadcast networks.
The embattled Ten Network ( ASX:TEN) has made no secret of its desire to secure the rights to at least one sport.
Seven West last reported a $109 million net loss to Dec 29 2012.
