BHP fined over worker death

BHP Billiton ( ASX:BHP)  has been fined over the death of a worker, almost five years ago.

The global miner will pay $430,000 in compensation to the family of the Port Hedland worker.

At the conclusion of the investigation by Western Australia's Department of Mines and Petroleum, a Perth court found BHP guilty of failing to provide a safe working environment.

BHP last reported a $4.14 billion Net profit to December 31.
