Qantas H1 profit soars

Company News

Qantas Airways (ASX:QAN) has announced a surge in half year profit of 164 per cent, despite challenging operating conditions.

In the six months to December 31, Qantas posted a net profit of $111 million, but has once again held off paying an interim dividend.

Qantas chief executive, Alan Joyce, says the strong result is the pay off of tough decisions taken by the airline in the past 18 months.

But, looking ahead, Qantas gave no specific guidance for the full year, due to what Mr Joyce describes as economic uncertainty.
