Fortescue awards Macmahon $1.8B contract

Company News

Fortescue Metals Group Limited (ASX:FMG) has awarded Macmahon Holdings Limited (ASX:MAH) a $1.8 billion contract for its Christmas Creek Mine expansion.

Macmahon says it is the largest single mining contract it has ever been awarded and lifts the mining contractor’s order book to a record $3.6 billion.

Pilbara focussed iron ore miner Fortescue says the five year contract will deliver all aspects of mine operations including drill and blast, overburden
removal, ore harvesting and maintenance of equipment and associated services for the expansion.

Fortescue CEO Nev Power says the Christmas Creek Mine expansion has increased the capacity of the Chichester Operations to 95 million tonnes per annum and is a key component of Fortescue’s expansion to 155 million tonnes per annum by the end of 2013.

Fortescue Metals Group posted a net profit of $1.5 billion in the 2012 financial year.
