Australia’s two retail giants have been ranked in the world’s top 20 retailers by the Deloitte Global Powers of Retailing study.
Woolworths Limited
(ASX:WOW) and Wesfarmers Limited
(ASX:WES), at 17th and 18th respectively, are the only two Australian retailers featuring on the list.
Wesfarmers is atop the list of the 50 fastest growing retailers between 2006 – 2011, driven by its 2007 acquisition of supermarket chain Coles, but entered the top 20 for the first time after ranking 21st last year.
Woolworths has improved its 18th ranking last year by one place.
First and second spot on the global list were taken out by US giant Walmart and French Group Carrefour respectively.
Woolworth’s generated a net profit of $1.8 billion in the 2012 financial year.
