Best performing stocks in 2012

Over a year the S&P/ASX 200 gained 13.4 per cent Maverick Drilling and Exploration Limited (ASX:MAD) took the top spot as the best performing stock in 2012. 
 
The oil and gas explorer and producer’s stock surged 227 per cent in the 12 month period, climbing into the top 200 companies by the end of the year. 
 
Sirtex Medical Limited (ASX:SRX) lifted into second place with the biotechnology and medical device company’s stock jumping 193 per cent in 2012. 
 
Breville Group Limited (ASX:BRG) came in as the third best performing stock; The electrical consumer products and home goods distributor’s stock advanced 144 per cent over the year. 
 
Completing the top five performers were financial services group FlexiGroup Limited (ASX:FXL) gaining 99 per cent and oil and gas explorer and producer Buru Energy Limited (ASX:BRU) rising 96 per cent in the 2012 calendar year. 
 
Maverick Drilling and Exploration reported a net profit of $6.5 million in the 2012 financial year.
