Coal of Africa sacks 178 employees

Perth based Coal of Africa Limited (ASX:CZA) says it has dismissed 178 employees at its Mooiplaats coal mine in South Africa.

The workers who make up 48 per cent of the mine’s total workforce, were engaged in an unprotected strike since December 3, over the suspension of four of their colleagues.

The mines’ operations is expected to resume today. The walkout is the plant’s second in less than two months. 
 
Coal of Africa booked a net loss of $136.3 million for the 2012 financial year.
