ACCC raises red flag on Woolies buy

Company News

Woolworths Limited’s (ASX:WOW) proposed acquisition of an IGA supermarket in Canberra has reportedly raised questions with the competition regulator.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) says its concerns relate to the lessening of competition in the local area and have asked for stakeholder submissions.

A woollies spokesperson said they would be pursuing the matter with the ACCC.

Australia’s competition regulator is currently assessing 10 other Woolworths acquisitions.

Woolworths delivered a full year net profit of $1.8 billion in the 2012 financial year.
