Casino operator Crown Limited (ASX:CWN) has scored government approval for more gaming machines at its proposed six-star luxury hotel development in Perth.

The Gaming and Wagering Commission has approved an additional 500 electronic gaming machines over five years and an additional 100 table games over four years.

While the approval is conditional upon the development proceeding Crown has affirmed its $568 million commitment to the project, taking its investment into Perth to more than $2.2 billion.

Crown says the development is poised to become a world-class entertainment precinct to compete and capture a share of the expanding Asian tourism market.

Shares in Crown firmed 0.6 per cent to close at $10.31 on Monday, before the announcement was made.

Crown reported a full year net profit of $513 million in the 2012 financial year.
