Woodside eyes US gas opportunities

Woodside Petroleum Limited (ASX:WPL) is reportedly considering a number of opportunities in the US shale gas market. 

The oil and gas producer’s CEO Peter Coleman has told News Corporation Woodside’s leadership team have spent considerable time in North America and know the region well. 

Mr Coleman says the company is still unsure when it will enter the market as it is still maturing the opportunities but plans to navigate through the process.

According to the report Woodside is eyeing downstream operations in the US market and possible joint ventures. The company has been
operating in the Gulf of Mexico since 1999. 

Woodside Petroleum posted a net profit of $800 million in the first half of the 2012 financial year.
