Atlas Iron to avoid paying mining tax

Company News

Atlas Iron Limited (ASX:AGO) has reportedly said it will not pay the Federal Government’s latest mining tax.

According to The Australian, Atlas Iron’s Managing Director Ken Brisden said the iron ore producer will avoid paying the mineral resource rent tax in the foreseeable future.

Mr Brisden also believes the emerging theme of the tax is that there are no winners and the Government won't be getting the revenue it expected.

In the first half of the 2012 financial year Atlas Iron posted a net profit of $6 million.
