Rio Tinto Limited (ASX:RIO) has awarded VDM Group Limited (ASX:VMG) a $17 million contract.
The contract is for the design and construction of several facilities at the Brockman 4 Phase II site in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
VDM will provide the engineering design work and construction of a new plant maintenance workshop, heavy vehicle fuel facility, related infrastructure and additions to the existing village facilities.
The Brockman mine has an estimated mine life of more than 20 years and forms a key part of Rio Tinto’s plans of boosting iron ore output.
Rio Tinto booked a net profit of $6.7 billion the 2011 financial year.
