Telstra Corporation Limited (ASX:TLS) has won a contract with the Department of Human Services worth $474 million.

Australia’s largest telco will work to build and manage a new unified communications network over five years.

The new network is expected to connect the Department and its master programs, providing cost savings and productivity benefits as well as enabling better service delivery outcomes.

The Minister for Human Services, Senator Kim Carr, says the contract provides better services and greater access for some of Australia’s most disadvantaged citizens, as well as providing a boost for Australian industry.

In the first half of its 2012 financial year Telstra reported a net profit of $1.5 billion.
