Fairfax restructures and sheds 1900 jobs

Fairfax Media Limited (ASX:FXJ) has revealed it will make structural changes to its business.

According to an announcement made to the market, the media company will begin charging for some of its online content by the end of the year and will establish compact templates for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age as well as subscriptions to both publications.

The restructure will see Fairfax shed 1900 positions from its Chullora and Tullamarine printing facilities.

Fairfax generated a net profit of $97.6 million in the first half of its 2012 financial year.
