Woolies prepares to refresh

Woolworths Limited (ASX:WOW) will reportedly renovate 170 stores nationwide commencing next year.

According to the Australian Financial Review, the supermarket giant says it is the largest refurbishment it has undertaken and will demand a “significant amount of money.”

Woolworths chief, Grant O’Brien is looking to increase its share to 36 per cent of the fresh food market from 28 per cent.

The retailer is also focused on opening 39 supermarkets this year as well as another 120 over five years.

In the first half of the 2012 financial year, Woolworths generated a net profit $975 million.
