Fairfax journalists begin strike action

Company News

Fairfax Media Limited (ASX:FXJ) journalists have walked out on their jobs as they begin a 36-hour strike action today, over the outsourcing of 66 editorial jobs to New Zealand.

Some of the publications affected include The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian Financial Review.

The strike commenced at 5:30 yesterday evening after journalists met with union officials at stopwork meetings.

Fairfax has seen record declines in its circulation and unveiled a three-year $170 million savings program earlier this year.

In the first-half of the 2012 financial year, Fairfax posted a net profit of $97.6 million.
