Central Petroleum pursues coal assets listing

Company News

Oil and gas explorer Central Petroleum Limited (ASX:CTP) is pursuing opportunities to separately list its coal assets in the Northern Territory.

The exploration company says its early stage coal discoveries in central Australia have the potential to be highly valuable but the market currently assigns little value to them.

Given the company’s focus on oil and gas Central Petroleum believes its coal assets are not achieving market visibility or the attention required to move into potential commercialisation.

Central Petroleum says the proposed separate listing would enable the value of the coal assets to be realised through its own board of directors, experienced coal management team and funding capabilities.

Central shareholders would maintain exposure to the assets through a retained equity interest.

Central Petroleum booked a net loss of $12.95 million in the first half of its 2012 financial year.
