Orica plant closure to cost $90M

Company News

Orica Limited (ASX:ORI) says it’s Newcastle plant is back up and running but the recent closures will cost the company about $90 million this financial year.

The explosives and mining services supplier was forced to shut the plant down last year following a chemical leak.

Orica says today ammonia production at Kooragang Island has resumed.

Despite the anticipated financial impact, the company expects still its 2012 financial year profit before one-off items will improve from the year before.

Orica posted a net profit of $663 million in the 2011 financial year.
