Cochlear H1 profit down 123%

Cochlear Limited (ASX:COH) has posted a net loss of $20.4 million, down 123 per cent for the half year to December.

Net profit after tax, before product recall costs, was down eight per cent to $80.1 million for 2011.

Total revenues were up three per cent to $387.5 million for the bionic ear implant company, but sales were down one per cent.

Cochlear says implant sales alone were $311.5 million, up one per cent in reported currency and seven per cent in constant currency.

In October the company said the voluntary recall of its Nucleus CI500 device was expected to cost up to $150 million.

Cochlear posted a record full year net profit of $180.1 million in the 2011 financial year.
