BHP facing overtime bans

Company News

BHP Billiton Limited (ASX:BHP, LON:BHP, NYSE:BHP) is preparing to face a wave of overtime bans at its sites in Queensland from mining unions.

The global miner says it cannot and will not accept the productivity-destroying arrangements proposed by the unions, and has argued its competitors don’t have to contend with such restrictions.

Negotiations on new workplace agreements have been at a standstill for 15 months.

BHP reported a record net profit of $22.3 billion in the 2011 financial year.
