Qantas Airways Limited
(ASX:QAN) boss Alan Joyce has told a parliamentary hearing that proposed legislative changes are a major threat to the airline's future, could “destroy” jobs, and even force it to sell Jetstar.
Independent senator Nick Xenophon has introduced draft laws requiring Qantas to maintain its principal operation centre in Australia.
In response today, Mr Joyce told senators the company “must adapt, or die," and described Senator Xenophon's legislation as "misguided," and would strangle Qantas’ capacity to run as a business.
Virgin Australia
(ASX:VAH) has also argued against the legislative changes at previous senate hearings.
Qantas reported a net profit of $249 million in the 2011 financial year.
