Oroton boss says customers are smart

Company News

OrotonGroup Limited’s (ASX:ORL) managing director, Sally Macdonald, has rebuked claims that local consumers will refuse to pay full price amid heavy retail sales.

She told Fairfax Media customers cannot be lured by retailers through discounts alone, and that "Customers are smart and won't be ripped off.”

Meanwhile the first official figures on the early weeks of Christmas shopping, released yesterday by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, show retail trade was unchanged in November, despite economists’ expectations of a rise.

In the 2011 financial year OrotonGroup posted a net profit of $24.8 million.
