Austal wins $7.9M US Navy ship work

Austal Limited’s (ASX:ASB) US division has won a $7.9 million modification to the US Navy contract for the construction of littoral combat ships. 

The shipbuilding company says it will assess engineering, baseline and configuration management services in support of the construction and delivery of the ships.

The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2012 and about a third of the work will be performed at Austal’s US shipyards in Alabama.

Before the announcement shares in Austal closed 0.45 per cent higher yesterday at $2.24.

In the 2011 financial year Austal reported a net profit of $22 million.
