Qantas reaches union agreement

Company News

Qantas Airways Limited (ASX:QAN) has reached a truce with the engineers union.

The airline and the union are meeting at Fair Work Australia today where it’s expected an agreement will be made to end their dispute.

Qantas says the agreement doesn’t include any of the claims that would have restricted it in making the changes needed to compete in the global aviation industry.

It’s the first deal Qantas has made with a union since its fleet was grounded in October.

Meanwhile chief executive Alan Joyce has told News Ltd he’s prepared to walk away from Boeing 787 Dreamliner orders if it’s what’s needed to "protect the carrier's jealously guarded investment grade credit rating".

In the 2011 financial year Qantas reported a net profit of $249 million.
