Orica resumes Kooragang production

Company News

Orica Limited (ASX:ORI) has resumed production of ammonium nitrate at its Kooragang Island site in New South Wales.

The announcement comes one week after the explosives and mining services supplier was allowed to re-start some of its facilities after a chemical leak forced a shut down last month.

The ammonia plant remains closed subject to the New South Wales government lifting a prevention notice issued in August.

Orica says pre start-up testing on the ammonia plant is continuing after advising last month the closure of the facility is costing it $4 million in earnings every week.

Orica posted a profit of $663 million in the 2011 financial year.
