Qantas has confidence in Asia

Company News

Qantas Airways Limited (ASX:QAN) says the outlook for the global economy’s gloomy; but it’s still in talks with potential joint venture partners in Asia; and its domestic operations continue to perform strongly.

Chief executive Alan Joyce told this morning’s strategy day meeting it’s too early to make announcements about plans to invest in a premium airline based in Asia but more Asian premium and leisure travellers will chose to fly with Qantas over the next five years.

He says the airline’s aim is to position itself within the South East Asian marketplace in advance of planned aviation liberalisation.

Qantas Airways Limited (ASX:QAN) reported a profit of $249 million for the 2011 financial year.
