Fairfax Media Limited’s (ASX:FXJ) lowered its paywall price on the Australian Financial Review website today in what’s set to be a string of moves to change the way the media company provides online news content.
The company will make a decision in the new year on a three-tiered approach to charging for content on the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age websites, giving readers a mix of free and paid material.
It’s also going to start charging users of its iPad applications, which have been free to download since launch.
Chief executive Greg Hywood says more than 300,000 apps have been downloaded: significantly more than the anticipated 50,000.
