Metcash final stage to sell Franklins

Company News

Metcash Limited (ASX:MTS) is today launching the final stage of its campaign to sell Franklins supermarkets to IGA retailers.

The announcement indicates the grocery wholesaler is confident it will defeat the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s latest attempt to block the deal.

The chief executive of Metcash says the company has received over 200 expressions of interest to buy the 80 supermarkets.

Discussions with potential buyers of the Franklins supermarkets will begin on November 21st.

In the 2011 financial year Metcash reported a net profit of $251 million.
