Leighton scores $US500M contract extension

Leighton Holdings Limited (ASX:LEI) wholly owned subsidiary, Thiess Pty Ltd, has scored a $US500 million contract extension in Indonesia.

Thiess Contractors Indonesia has inked a deal to extend the existing contract by three years, for the further development and operation of two Indonesian coal mines.

The extension sets a production target of 5 million tonnes of coal per annum and will start at the beginning of 2012.

Thiess advises that it has an annual turnover of $7 billion and $22 billion work in hand.

In the 2011 financial year Leighton Holdings reported a net loss of $406 million.
