Leighton awarded Macarthur contract

The subsidiary of Leighton Holdings Holding Limited (ASX:LEI), Thiess, and mining services company Sedgman have been awarded an $85 million contract to build a coal handling plant at a mine managed by Macarthur Coal Limited (ASX:MCC).

The joint venture will design and construct a coal handling and preparation plant at the Codrilla coal mine in the Bowen Basin. Operations are expected to begin in 2012.

The coal handling plant is expected to be completed in mid-2013.

Leighton Holdings Holding Limited (ASX:LEI) reported a loss of $405.7 million for the six months to June.
