Fosters beer variety to be slashed

Company News

The variety of beers Foster's Group Limited (ASX:FGL) produces is likely to be slashed, and the Abbotsford brewing operations closely looked at, as SABMiller plans a comprehensive overhaul. That’s according to Fairfax Media.

SABMiller’s chief executive says he plans to revamp Victoria Bitter and hopes to increase Australia’s low beer consumption, compared with other alcoholic drinks.

The speculation comes after Foster's recommended shareholders accept SABMiller’s sweetened $12.3 billion takeover bid.

In the 2011 financial year, Foster’s Group booked a net loss of $89 million.
