BHP YouTube ad union dispute

Company News

BHP Billiton Limited (ASX:BHP) is threatening legal action against unions over advertisements claiming miners could be forced to work Christmas Day. That’s according to a report in the Australian Financial Review.

A spokesperson for the BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance says the video, available on union websites and YouTube, falsely claims employees would be forced to work longer hours under an industrial agreement for coalminers in Queensland, proposed by the miner.

Six hour strikes are planned for today, with more industrial action expected next week.

In the 2011 financial year BHP Billiton reported a net profit of $22.3 billion.
