Orica Limited (ASX:ORI) says it’s confident authorities won’t block expansion plans for its Kooragang Island ammonium nitrate plant near Newcastle, despite the backlash from a chemical leak. That’s according to a report by the Australian Financial Review.
Production was suspended last month after a potentially cancer causing chemical escaped into the atmosphere.
The chief executive told the paper he hoped the leak would result in only minor delays to the expansion of the plant.
In the first half of its 2011 financial year Orica reported a net profit of $277 million.
