Qantas Airways Limited (ASX:QAN) has reported a passenger increase for July of 6.2 per cent, compared with the same time last year.
Total domestic yield excluding foreign exchange for the month was 9.4 per cent higher, and total international yield excluding foreign exchange for the month was 7 per cent higher.
The airline said today that its new domestic airway, Jetstar Japan, which it owns in a partnership with Japan Airlines and Mitsubishi, will commence operations between Tokyo and Osaka at the end of next year.
The airline is also deferring the delivery of its final six airbus A380s by up to six years, and will retire four Boeing 747 aircraft early.
Last week Qantas announced that it had more than doubled its profit in the 2011 financial year, coming in at $249 million.
