Workers at BHP Billiton’s (ASX:BHP) Escondida mine in northern Chile are still on strike, for the tenth day running.
The workers have rejected a new compensation offer from the miner.
The disruption of work at the copper mine, which accounts for 7 per cent of the world’s copper, has generated concern that supply of copper will fall.
Since the copper strike started on July 21, copper prices have risen by 2.2 per cent.
BHP Billiton (ASX:BHP) reported a profit of $10.5 billion in the second half of 2010.
