Qantas faces more staff strikes

Company News

First it was engineers, then pilots. Now, Qantas Airways (ASX:QAN) warehouse workers are walking off the job in protest of the airline’s casualisation of its workforce.

The National Union of Workers says warehouse staff are ‘fed up’ with the airline’s refusal to protect permanent jobs.

The staff will strike for 24 hours today. The airline will replace them for the day, with casual staff.

Qantas said it had made a reasonable pay increase offer, which the union has rejected.

In the six months to the end of last year, Qantas Airways (ASX:QAN) posted a profit of $239 million.
