Rio considers selling UK power station

Rio Tinto Ltd (ASX:RIO) is considering selling off one of its UK power stations according to London’s Daily Express newspaper.

The report says £40 million would need to be spent on the plant to bring it in line with new environmental laws due to be enforced the year after next.

A Rio spokesperson did not comment on the possibility of a future sale but said the miner was looking into all options, including closing the site. The site currently employs 630 people.

For the twelve months to 31 December, 2010, Rio Tinto reported a net profit of $14.9 billion.
