Competition to hit Telstra revenues

Company News

Telstra Corporation Ltd’s (ASX:TLS) revenues look set to be hit with increasing competition from new services that are being launched by global players.

In particular, the Australian Financial Review says Telstra’s already declining calling revenues have been dealt a blow by social networking site Facebook’s tie-up with internet-phone based company Skype.

The international technology companies yesterday announced their latest offering that will see Facebook’s 750 million users able to access Skype’s video calling services.

According to the AFR, Telstra’s fixed line revenue dropped 8.4 per cent to $253 million in last half of 2010.

In the first half of its 2011 financial year, Telstra posted a net profit of $1.2 billion.
